  The Tree Council was founded in 1974 with major support from the Department of the Environment and in 1978 became an independent registered charity.
  The Tree Warden Scheme is a national initiative to enable people to play an active role in conserving and enhancing their local trees and woods. The scheme was founded by the Tree Council and is co-ordinated by the Council in partnership with National Grid Transco, which has a well-established policy of community involvement and environmental care.
  BTCV is the UK’s largest practical conservation charity. Founded in 1959, we help over 130,000 volunteers take hands-on action each year to improve the rural and urban environment.
 

National Grid Electricity Transmission owns and maintains the high-voltage electricity transmission system in England and Wales.The company has worked in partnership with The Tree Council since 1990 and has supported its national Tree Warden Scheme since 1997. The expert advice National Grid Transco receives from The Tree Council, together with the support of Tree Wardens, is vital in helping the company to manage trees in a safe and sustainable way.

  The Beacon Scheme identifies excellence and innovation in local government. It is much more than just a badge, however. The scheme exists to share good practice so that best value authorities can learn from each other and deliver high quality services to all.
  York Pride aims to radically improve the city's environment at street level. They are tackling problems including: litter, the cleanliness and condition of roads, paths and squares, the condition of grass verges and planted public spaces, graffiti, gullies, street furniture and the appearance and condition of council housing estates.
